This past weekend, I was finally able to attend the LightBox Expo (LBX) at the Pasadena Convention Center. I worked as a “Firefly”. This is the first time I ever worked a convention.
The LightBox Expo (LBX) was from Friday afternoon to Sunday bringing together creative minds to learn, inspire, and ignite a shared passion for art, offering attendees access to talents from major studios including Disney, Netflix, Illumination, Laika, Sony Pictures Animation, Dreamworks, and Titmouse.
The expo features more than 200 hours of programming with exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at popular franchises from Disney, Dreamworks, Sony, and Netflix.
Now, the world has so much talent that’s unrecognized but this weekend hosted the coolest artist alley of over 300+ artists.
My job this weekend was to help out with the portfolio reviews. This is something I know all too well when I used to have to do the same thing back in 2011 and 2012 before graduating college. I meet artist who came from Mexico City, Argentina, Japan, and all over the world (not just online).
Saturday, the last review I got to speak with was Dawn Yamazi from Ravensburger. She is just a great person to talk to and believes the same thing I do and that’s “a career should be driven by a dream, have purpose, include thoughtful design”. I got the opportunity to have a small chat before clocking out for the day.
Sunday was the time I got to really look at all the artists. Of course, my friends at The Little Friends of Printmaking and other artists I now follow: Sanglamart, Xinillus, Vonnart, Rossdraws, Feefal, and other amazing artists.
I really enjoyed my experience at the Lightbox Expo this weekend even working as a Firefly. I definitely will be attending next year.
