So I went to see Joker II in theaters on Friday. Let me first say that it’s an extremely well made movie but I wouldn’t watch it twice.
Joaquin Phoenix still does an amazing job playing Arthur Fleck. He even got an Oscar for best actor! I believe that Phoenix find a way to dig deep into Arthur Fleck’s emotional turmoil, the why, and reasoning.
Lady Gaga play Harley Quinn and does an excellent job playing her character and digging deep into to the psychology of the character.
I will tell you that you may leave the theater kind of sad and possibly feeling bad for both Harley and Joker. This is the follow up of the first Joker film.
In the movie, Arthur Fleck faces the consequences of his actions of the first movie.
I feel like the movie was beautifully shot choreographed perfectly, and phenomenal performance from both Gaga and Phoenix.
I did take a gander at the reviews saying they did not like it or it was a disappointment missed a few points.
There is a central point in question wondering if the Joker truly exists.
Throughout the film, Arthur wasn’t trying to become “the joker”. Instead, “the joker” was already within him. The dream-like sequences we see in Arthur’s mind, banging the Judge and killing people are the struggles of that inner battle.
Arthur resists at every turn. It was a Joker’s thing in the first iteration that he would kiss unexpectedly as he greets. Here, Arthurs resistance is visible when he tries to kiss his lawyer, which becomes an awkward mess.
If you pay close attention. Arthur DISRESPECT THE JOKER when he takes responsibility for all 7 murders he committed. If you have read the comics, you will see. Arthur’s followers slower leave and then Harley leaves him (or abandons him).
When Arthur becomes a NOBODY, “The Joker” actually finds the one who truly admires its persona and the kiss from the beginning of the movie and that’s how the Joker chooses him as his new host by killing Arthur. Killing Arthur is Joker’s 8th murder.
If you do check it out, let me know in the comments what you think.
