As an artist and designer, it’s been almost impossible to get work in my field. When I voice this, the first thing I’m told is to create AI art. Why is this even a thing?
Now, I’m not against AI in general. I’m only against AI to create overall images because it takes from various different artist and original photos to create a new composition. It’s like if you logon to a website and they collect your personal information and share it openly to others. That’s how AI Art is.
AI is practically everywhere and when it comes to art, it’s selling like “sex” would. The struggle of being a starving artist isn’t new but AI’s takeover of many creative tasks has made this challenge even more difficult. I’m more reluctant to post my work now because of it.
I’m questioning the relevance of my education, the value of my skills and future job prospects in an AI-dominated world. Now you seemingly have to know AI just to be hired in the creative industry. Even though I stay on to of new technologies and innovations ideas, this feels more like a way to get rid of original artists (and designers) and replace it with fake digital AI.
As an artist, I tried to approach it with openness, wisdom and care but human imagination should not be overwritten. Art is my personal way to express myself and I would honestly rather stop drawing and creating art altogether than to create AI from the backs of other artists.
