I’m Tired of Having to Explain my Mental Health and Chronic Pain to People

Most people have the general ideal what “physical pain” is or what “disabled” is and what it looks like. However, if it is not immediately obvious for others to see the it’s invisible or don’t exist.

The real truth is that illnesses come in different shapes and forms and they aren’t always visible on the outside. The thing is that most of us look extremely healthy on the outside but it doesn’t mean that they aren’t in pain everyday or have some illness they are battling.

For me, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression. I act and look healthy on the outside. I even workout and keep everything manageable and even all my blood work is at a healthy level. However, people who suffer the way we do face so much discrimination and judgement on a daily basis.

Most of the time it’s because of lack of awareness and understanding. Sometimes, there have been ridiculous situations where people just don’t believe in “invisible illness” or “mental illness” or “chronic illness”.

Honestly, I shouldn’t have to explain myself. I should have to give my private medical history.. Next time you see someone who doesn’t “look disabled” or use then priority seat but looks healthy, they may have an invisible illness.
