As a chronic illness warrior, self-care is not an option. It’s a necessary part of my journey to maintain my health and well-being. As I get older, it gets even more important. The one thing I’ve found is that creativity is a great way to relieve some of the stress and anxiety that comes with living with chronic illness. Whether it’s listening to music, drawing, or writing, I make sure to make time for creativity every day even if I do nothing most of my day due to depression. It’s a non-negotiable part of my self-care routine.
As a business owner too, it’s important to take care of both the physical and mental well-being as well as the creative side of my life. Research shows that music therapy has been shown to decrease anxiety and it also helped calm the neural activities in the brain and reduce anxiety. This is why you’ll always catch me with a pair of headphones especially during times of productivity and working on branding/design for my clients. It’s my need honestly.

Creativity is a part of who I am, and it’s important to me to do things that make me a whole person. I know a lot of people who have lost their sense of creativity because their business has consumed them and their chronic illness consumes them. Being a entrepreneur with a chronic illness is something that is mine. Something I did and that is what you should find for yourself.
